The words “conservative” and “conservationist” have a lot in common.
Revered Republican “conservation president” Theodore Roosevelt doubled the number of national parks in America. He is pictured above on Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park with John Muir, known as the “Father of the National Parks.”
In his sermons, Church Of Christ Pastor Doug Nicholls spoke of Jesus as being “close to the earth.” There are respects in which this legendary man was a courageous radical, but he was also deeply conservative in his commitment to Christianity, family and respect for tradition.
On July 9, 1970, Richard Nixon proposed establishing the first national Environmental Protection Agency in the world and it officially opened its doors in the United States on December 2 in the same year.
When conservatives decide to conserve, they get the job done.
